Over the last three decades for his unyielding inclusion health efforts for homeless people, and other vulnerable populations, on 27 April 2019 streetdoctor Ronald Smit, Public Health Utrecht, was decorated with a Royal award, Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau, by the major of Utrecht Jan van Zanen.

Ronald Smit had been playing an important role in detecting vulnerable people and system gaps to be bridged, and introducing programs to improve access and qualilty of services. He is one of the founders of the Netherlands Streetdoctors Group (www.straatdokter.nl)
